We are committed to upholding the very highest international standards in the shipment of artworks. Consequential damage, indirect damage, loss and damage due to delay in transportation are not covered by this insurance. This insurance protection shall be valid in principle for the entire period of transportation: From the transfer of the artwork to the service provider through to the point of delivery.
GOOD TO KNOW
“Unique” in photographic terms is used to describe a one-off photographic shot. The artwork is not reproduced and has a special value, particularly for collectors, by virtue of the fact that it is an individual piece. A photographic work that is unique means that there is only one in existence in the world.
The limited availability as specified by the artist and therefore the official number in circulation. When selling and signing the photographic work, the edition acquired and the number of the total available prints is specified.
The photograph categorized as an artist proof is the first production of an artwork. It has a particular value for collectors, as the photograph is a part of the artistic production process that is not yet completed at this point. It can differ from later standard prints of the work, making it special and valuable.
Photographs are reproduced on a coated, 3mm thick aluminum carrier plate (laminated) with a special adhesive film. The low-reflection and dimensionally stable surface guarantees an optimum presentation, especially for large works. The artworks are hung freely from the wall using attached hooks.
Underneath the light-sensitive layer embedded in gelatine is the white baryte-coated paper, which, together with the blackening of the photographic layer brings out the much-valued black and white look and feel. Artists choose baryte paper for valuable hand-produced prints as the paper doesn’t fully soak up with water during the rinsing phase of the development process. As well as its high-quality surface impression, baryte is notable for its very high level of image stability and its suitability for archiving. Modern printing methods now also mean that color prints with a baryte look are also possible.
Originally, ‘C’ defined the Kodak paper type on which the color photographs of color negatives were printed. The term C-Print is almost always used for the chemical color copy, which can also be digital. Nowadays, the ‘C’ is used for simplicity’s sake as a reference to ‘color’ and leaves the type of paper used open.
A matt photo paper serves as a light-sensitive carrier. It is digitally exposed for a limited time to light from color lasers and the image is produced in this way. Lambda Prints are known to have an extremely high color density and photorealistic print quality. Especially for large-scale color prints.
Polaroids are ‘instant photos’ that can be regarded as unique works due to the nature of their production process.
